Lebanese rowers message
"It is devastating, to see our center completely destroyed, words can’t even describe the shock that all of the Lebanese people have been through. We were lucky that no one was in the center at the time of the blast because of lock down. Rowers won’t be able to row anytime soon, as all boats and equipment are damaged. Our rowers witnessed their dreams fading, and the place that brings joy to them was gone. It is the place where we all meet to train, have a little breather from the stressful life. Not being able to row in waters feels purposeless. We have to start over, rebuild from scratch, we will see it as an opportunity to have a fresh start and regain faith. The international support that we have received was so heartwarming, we felt that we were not alone and we actually have the chance to rebuild this center and we will be back in the waters sooner than later. So as the Lebanese rowing family we ask you for your support in any way you can, by donating or sharing our crowdfunding campaign so it reaches more people."
Let’s bring back hope, dream again, and go back to water where we belong. Donate today.
About the campaign
The massive explosion that occurred on August 4th that hit the Lebanese capital Beirut has rocked the world, which killed at least 220 people, injured more than 5,000, left an estimated 300,000 people homeless and destroyed many facilities including the only active Lebanese Rowing training center as the center is on the harbor directly where the blast happened is a community for rowers and mostly a family for its members. Luckily, no one was in the center because of lock down.
The ‘reBuild reRow Campaign’ has been set up to rebuild the center so that we can start rowing again. We are looking to raise $204,315. The cost breaks down between removing the rubble, the full reconstruction of the facility which includes a boat house that houses all boats oars and zodiacs, a gym for indoor rowing, a multipurpose room, storage room and bathrooms (Showers, Wc, changing Room and lockers). ) and Boats (single, double, four, coastal), oars, rowing machines and all related equipment.
